Site Network: Debate This, Ole Miss. | the j-department | debate.olemiss.edu | mblog | mcast | the university of mississippi

A lot of complaints have been made by various students, faculty, and even in the Daily Mississippian during the past few weeks about the inconveniences caused by the upcoming presidential debate. Even at the debate week kickoff tonight, Chancellor Khayat talked about the extra hassles we will deal with while Mayor Howorth discussed the driving troubles he has already dealt with today. But even though we will all have to deal with a few inconveniences over the next week, the speakers talked about how it is all worth it. The University of Mississippi is getting to be a part of history and is able to show the nation and the world that it is not just a 1962 civil rights incident. Ole Miss is a great public university with many amazing opportunities.
This next week is an amazing opportunity, not only for our journalism class, but for all of Ole Miss. As media interns, we get to experience this event in a way that very few students ever will. I know I will never forget this week (I’m nearly dying from anticipation now and the event is still five days away). However, this week is not just historic and memorable for us interns, but for all of Ole Miss. As a part of Ole Miss, we are all a part of history. We are the hosts of one of, if not the most, historical debate in American history. I hope that this campus will embrace that opportunity and tries to enjoy everything (except for maybe the parking problems) about this week. After all, as one of our class speakers said, “while the world may not remember what occurred here, we always will.”
