Site Network: Debate This, Ole Miss. | the j-department | debate.olemiss.edu | mblog | mcast | the university of mississippi

So as usual, everyone that lives in Oxford is talking politics, so I thought I would use some of the conversation I have been having with friends for my blog entry. I really enjoy listening to other people’s opinions and I feel like all us can learn from each other, because lets face it, we, are the future of America. During one discussion about where our country is going and super-power countries, my friend commented that, “Most super powers only last for about 200 years. England, Russia, even Rome at one point, only lasted for so long. It’s time for China to take a turn and be the super power, and for us (America) to step down.” A superpower - is a state with a leading position in the international system and the ability to influence events and project power on a worldwide scale, says Wikipedia. Her statement intrigues me because I honestly couldn’t imagine our country not being on top, the best, where everyone else looks for answers. But I do want to be open-minded, to think that maybe our time has come. I think China is smarter, stronger, and has faster technology than we do. They just hosted the Olympics, one of the biggest events in the world and did it flawless. So what does this mean for our country then? Where are we going? Financially? Globally? I’m really looking forward to covering the debate this week. I’m looking forward to being a citizen of this country and finding out what the most important issues are for our future President of the United States of America. I feel so privileged to be getting this opportunity. Barack Obama and John McCain are going to be the most thrilling stories to ever cover, bring it on!
