In the magazine Newsmax this week, there is an article called “All This Talk About ‘Change’ Scares Me” by Ben Stein, who is one of my favorite TV personalities. In the article he says Obama wants many changes to come in the next presidency. But Ben doesn’t think we need that many changes. He says Obama talks about fixing global warming, when in all reality we are not quite sure what needs to be fixed. He quotes, “When I hear Mr. Obama promises to cool the earth, I wonder how he’s going to do it when we have no control over how much carbon the rest of the world burns, and whether or not burning carbon will be a net plus or minus for the earth.” I think he makes a very good point that, honestly, Obama can’t decide on his own. Global warming is going to take extensive research before there can be a sure solution to the problem. Ben goes on to talk about Obama wanting all young people to learn Spanish. But he brings up these very insightful questions, “Why? Would that help Hispanics get a good education? Would that help Hispanics be more productive workers and be able to send their kids to fine colleges? Would that help Mexican immigrants to get out of slaughterhouses and cane fields and into Harvard or MIT?” I think these are very valuable points. Obama is trying to get everyone to compromise and pull together, but it seems like most of the things he wants to change like globalization and taxes for the rich and poor are all geared to helping minorities and immigrants. He doesn’t focus on changing the core of the country, the regular, middle class citizens who just want their freedom. Obama needs to reconsider, no just helping minorities and immigrants, but also what he can do for the American people of this country.
