Sen. Barack Obama has many obstacles standing in his path toward the White House. Of course, some of those include issues such as foreign policies and domestic affairs that people may not agree with him. USA Today ran a story written by Kathy Kiely pointing out that race could be one of the biggest barriers in his way.

Former president Jimmy Carter said in the article that race is not as big of a deal as it used to be, but still is a “subterranean issue” in elections. He continued by saying that Obama will have to “account for ‘white people who have a prejudice against black people but won’t admit it.’”

It’s kind of disappointing to see that in today’s society we still have people who would feel uncomfortable with a black president. It seems that this prejudice will never escape our country, or at least not for a while.

What will Obama have to do, if there is anything he can do, to try to capture these people’s votes? Is he just going to have to face that he will not get them and try to connect better with other groups or regions of the country?
